Santa Cruz To Miss Season Opener
Mark Hughes has today confirmed that Roque Santa Cruz will miss the opening weeks of the season and doesn’t expect to see him in a City shirt until the end of August.
Speaking to the clubs official Website Hughes said:
“We knew Roque would have a period of rehabilitation when we signed him, but we have good options up front.”
“If we can, we want to give him the time he really needs, rather than getting him back early and having him at 70%.
“Rather than bring him back too soon I would rather give him the time that he needs. We are hoping by the end of the month he will be available.”
In other words what Hughes is really saying is we now have that many top quality strikers at the club there is no need for him to rush, just take all the time you need Roque.
The Paraguayan striker who joined the club from Blackburn in a deal worth around 17M this summer has not played any part in Manchester City’s pre season. Once the former Blackburn striker comes into contention City will boast one of the strongest attacking squads in the country.
Joleon Lescott Still Hopeful Of Joining City
Latest reports suggest that Joleon Lescott is still hopeful of joining Manchester City in time for the new season opener against Blackburn this Saturday.
Sky Sports News are reporting that Joleon Lescott still wants to have the opportunity to talk with City and hopes an agreement can be reached. With Everton fans now calling for Lescott to leave and for the club to take the money on offer after he handed in a written transfer request on Tuesday.
It has also been suggested that Manchester City are preparing to launch one final bid for the Everton defender now he has declared his interest in joining the club.
Petrov Looking For Move
Martin Petrov has revealed his discontent at life at Manchester City while speaking to the Bulgarian press while on international duty:
“I don’t see City depending too much on me this year, at least from what I have seen from the pre-season friendlies so far. No footballer is content with polishing the bench and I am no exception.
“I am not in the plans of the City officials or manager Mark Hughes.
“In the next week I will try to speak with Hughes and if I get the green light for a transfer I will start searching for a new team.”
This could be the first of a number of players to see them selves feeling restless at the thought of spending alot of time warming the bench especially in the midfield and attacking department as the transfer deadline day draws ever closer.
We will have to wait and see if this is just a voice of frustration speaking out or whether he sees his future away from Manchester City. Although I can’t see Petrov playing week in week out I do see him being an important player for us this season and if he was to leave he would be missed.
Everton Turn Down Lescott Transfer Request
Everton FC have turned down a written transfer request from Joleon Lescott, which could officially end Manchester City’s interest in the player.
City have been chasing the signature of Lescott all summer and had two bids rejected by Everton. David Moyes the Everton manager has stated all summer none of his star players will be leaving this summer and he appears determined to stick to his word.
City could now turn their attention to other targets with Matthew Upson a strong possibility as it is believed the 30 year old who is on England duty would welcome a move north. West Ham are unlikely to prove as big an obstacle if Mark Hughes decided to bid for the former Arsenal man.
